Description
Balls ricochet around the cave and break whatever they hit, and the tonnes that broken blocks pay buy new balls and upgrades. The eight kinds of ball run from the plain Pebble to the Lodestone, which steers itself toward ore.
The rock is older and harder toward the outside, through ten eras from Quaternary clay to Hadean obsidian, and it has fossils in it. A fossil isn't named until the last block next to it breaks. The plesiosaur lies in Blue Lias, where Mary Anning found the first complete skeleton in 1823.
Up to four players can share a rock, each buying their upgrades separately, and broken blocks pay all of them. Nothing can hurt you, and the balls keep digging while the menus are open, though only while the game runs. The Nodule, the first rock, takes about 45 minutes, and the two after it take two to three hours each.
- 8balls: Pebble, Comet, Ember, Arc, Firefly, Lichen, Prism and Lodestone
- 10eras of rock, from Quaternary loess to Hadean obsidian
- 14fossils, from Smilodon fatalis to Anomalocaris canadensis
- 3rocks to dig out: the Nodule, about 45 minutes, then the Concretion, then Ten Million, two to three hours each
- 87tiles in the Tree
- 4players at most, in online or LAN co-op

AI disclosure
Here's where I used AI. The music was generated with Suno, then picked, trimmed and levelled for the game. About half the sound effects started as ElevenLabs generations that were cut and retuned to fit, and the rest, including the tone under every hit, are synthesised from scratch. I used Claude, an AI assistant, for most of the code and most of the writing, in the game and on its store pages. The translations into 13 languages were made with AI too. No image in the game or on its pages is AI-generated. Every picture, the store art included, is rendered by the game.
About PB& Games
PB& Games is Paul Booth's studio, founded in 2026. Fossick is its second game. The name is a sandwich joke: Paul Booth &, with the blank left for whatever comes next.

I'm Paul. Email me for interviews, a key for the full game at launch, or anything else. The demo is free and doesn't need a key. Tell me who you are and where you publish, and I'll write back.
